By Mark Ellington | Oct 4, 2023 9:30 PM

The women's junior varsity cross country team competed in the County Reserve Championship on Wednesday evening at Hamilton Southeastern High School. The Greyhounds raced against five other county rivals: Fishers, Guerin Catholic, HSE, Noblesville, and Westfield. The team got into a great battle on a fast course supported by good weather. Caroline Schmidt set the tone early at the front of the race. While she could not hold the early pace, her teammates were inspired and rallied behind her through the second half of the race. SO Maddie Cox (20:36) led the Greyhounds through the finish line with a sixth place finish. SR Madeline Weisner (20:52) blitzed to the line in tenth place just beating 21 minutes. JR Bri Roper (20:59) made a hard finish to the line as well to finish 17th. FR Malia Larger (21:11) finished a very consistent season with a finish in 22nd place. FR Hannah Schaller (21:17) completed the team scoring finishing 27th. SO Caroline Schmidt, JR Ronni Strzynski, FR Emma Meisner, SR Elena Harrie, and JR Kate Naas all finished in the top 50 and under 22 minutes for the Greyhounds. The team finished third behind Hamilton Southeastern and Guerin Catholic, scoring 82 points, one point ahead of Fishers. This was the final meet for the junior varsity squad this season. The team will now direct its attention to the varsity as the state tournament will begin with the North Central Sectional on October 14.
