Each year the Carmel Athletics Department honors the coaches of the year. Nominations and voting are completed exclusively thru all coaches at Carmel High School. The 2025-2026 Assistant Coach of the Year is Zavion Hutt. Zavion finished his 8th season with the Greyhound boys lacrosse program last year. The Greyhounds won the IHSLA State Championship for the second time in the last four years. Coach Hutt has been instrumental in the consistency of the program and development of the student-athletes. Carmel finished #10 in the MaxPreps National rankings last season. The 2025-2026 Jack Meachum Head Coach of the Year is Shane Schmidt. Shane led the 2026 boys soccer team to their first state title since 2006. The Greyhounds were also named MaxPreps National Champions. Schmidt has been a part of Carmel Soccer for 29 season. The 2015 team started the season unranked before charging up the rankings to win the state championship. He teaches in the Freshmen Center at Carmel High School. The Head Coach of the Year Award is named after Greyhound Coach Jack Meachum, who lost his life in a tragic car accident in August 2023. He left us a legacy as a transformational coach willing to dedicate his time, expertise, and wisdom to the student-athletes of the lacrosse program.
