Oshimura and Cooley Set School Records as Girls Track & Field Wins Regional Championship

The girls track & field team continued its outstanding postseason run Tuesday night, winning the Regional Championship with 116 points. The Greyhounds finished ahead of runner-up Hamilton Southeastern, who scored 78 points, while Westfield placed third with 56. The night was highlighted by two school-record performances. Senior Kaitlyn Oshimura broke the school record in the 800 meters, winning the regional title in 2:11.09. She led a tremendous effort in the event, with Sadie Foley finishing second in 2:12.06 and Larkin Taylor placing fourth in 2:13.89. Ellie Cooley also made history in the discus, breaking her own school record with a throw of 139-9. Cooley finished fourth in a loaded field and continued what has been an exceptional season in the event. The distance group delivered a major surge throughout the meet. Foley won the 1600 meters in 4:58.69, with Taylor finishing close behind in second at 4:59.20. Annabel Pollert added another regional championship in the 3200 meters, winning in 10:30.35. Maddie Cox also scored in the 3200, placing eighth in 11:39.80. The Greyhounds opened the running events with a victory in the 4x800 relay, running 9:16.40 to start the meet with momentum. They also added a third-place finish in the 4x100 relay in 49.17 and a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay in 3:53.66. In the sprints, Gaby Grande Rosas continued her strong postseason with a third-place finish in the 400 meters, running 56.12. Elise Maurer also scored in the 400, finishing fifth in 58.98. Jenna Harris advanced to the finals in both the 100 and 200 meters, placing sixth in the 100 and eighth in the 200. The field events added important points across the board. Amyla Holder placed eighth in both the discus and shot put, while Norah Chase finished sixth in the shot put. In the pole vault, Livi Miller placed fourth at 11-0, and Kathryn Hammond finished sixth at 10-9. Payton Hunter added a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 16-10.25. It was a complete team effort from the Greyhounds, who scored in nearly every area of the meet. From school records and regional champions to relay strength and key points throughout the lineup, the team showed the depth, toughness, and consistency that have carried it all season. The Greyhounds will now turn their attention to the IHSAA State Finals, where they will look to carry their momentum onto Indiana’s biggest stage.
