Carmel Girls Track & Field Wins Sectional Championship

The Carmel Girls Track & Field team opened the postseason with a strong team performance, winning the IHSAA Sectional 16 Championship at Hamilton Southeastern High School. The Greyhounds scored 156 points to claim the team title, finishing ahead of Hamilton Southeastern with 100, Westfield with 97, Noblesville with 85, and Fishers with 76. Carmel was led by several sectional champions, including the 4x800-meter relay team of Annabel Pollert, Kaitlyn Oshimura, Arden Finley, and Jade Gaczkowski, who won in 9:20.81. The Greyhounds also had a big night in the distance events, with Larkin Taylor winning the 1600-meter run in 5:01.75, just ahead of teammate Sadie Foley, who finished 2nd in 5:01.76. In the 800-meter run, Carmel swept the top three spots. Kaitlyn Oshimura won in 2:12.06, an IN Top 10 performance, while Foley placed 2nd in 2:14.01 and Taylor finished 3rd in 2:14.18. The Greyhounds continued to score points throughout the lineup. Annabel Pollert placed 2nd in the 3200-meter run in 10:34.97, while Gaby Grande Rosas finished 3rd in the 400-meter dash in 56.13. Carmel also picked up key sprint points from Livi Miller, Jenna Harris, and Farah Azeez, along with hurdle points from Faith Tchuente Fotso, Miller, and Maija Gilhooly. Carmel’s field events also played a major role in the championship. Amyla Holder placed 2nd in the discus at 133-1 and 3rd in the shot put at 38-10. Ellie Cooley added a 4th-place finish in the discus, while Norah Chase scored in the shot put. The Greyhounds also picked up points from Payton Hunter and Elise Maurer in the long jump, Kate Hammond and Miller in the pole vault, and Marie Perrin in the high jump. Carmel closed the track events with a runner-up finish in the 4x400-meter relay, as Kaitlyn Oshimura, Elise Maurer, Molly Foley, and Gaby Grande Rosas finished 2nd in 3:53.89.
