Carmel Boys Volleyball picked up their first home win of the season on Wednesday night, defeating Franklin Community in four sets (25-13, 25-15, 23-25, 25-14) on Teacher Appreciation Night at the Eric Clark Activity Center. The Greyhounds came out sharp, controlling the first two sets with strong offensive efficiency and disciplined play. After dropping a competitive third set, Carmel responded with authority in the fourth, closing out the match in convincing fashion. Offensively, Carmel was balanced and efficient throughout the night, finishing with a .402 team hitting percentage. Jack Kovac led the attack with 9 kills while hitting an impressive .571, continuing to be a strong presence at the net. Eli Philistin-Lynch added 8 kills and remained a consistent scoring option on the outside, while Ian Czarnecki and Shep Spidel each contributed 6 kills, helping keep the offense diversified and difficult to defend. Dylan Kaiser also made the most of his opportunities, hitting a team-best .750 on the evening. Running the offense, Shep Spidel facilitated a high-level attack that produced 45 total kills as a team, keeping hitters in rhythm throughout the match. At the net, Carmel totaled 11 blocks, with Spidel leading the way with 5 blocks, while Jack Kovac added 3 blocks and Dylan Kaiser chipped in 1 block, helping limit Franklin Community’s offensive rhythm. Defensively, the Greyhounds were steady in the back row, totaling 30 digs. Shep Spidel led the team with 8 digs, while Brice Hagaman added 7 and Thomas Kuehl contributed 5, anchoring serve receive and defensive transitions. Carmel’s depth and efficiency proved to be the difference, as multiple contributors stepped up across all phases of the match to secure the win. The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Jeffersonville to compete in the North vs. Central Classic, where they will face Jeffersonville and Madison.
